Add to your life list: birding in the Red River Valley!
Shorebirds? Waterbirds? Boreal birds? Raptors? Discover the birds of central Manitoba with this unique package!
Start in the bird-rich environment at Evergreen Gate Bed and Breakfast. Take an evening stroll along the Trans-Canada Trail, high above the Red River with its pods of white pelicans.
Get up early the next morning (Want to band some birds? You'll have to be at Oak Hammock Marsh at 7AM on a Friday!)... or not, it's your holiday!
In any case, flexible breakfast plans available here. Sometime in the morning, head to Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre, Manitoba's own wetland wonderland, to explore the marsh by canoe and walking interpretive tours. You'll also have your own pre-arranged specialty tour... Blackbird? Yellowleg? Pelican? Let us know what you're interested in... see the possibilities... We'll set this up for you.
Lunch is at Oak Hammock, in their café overlooking the marsh, or if you prefer, we'll pack you a lunch to enjoy outside.
Later, or even the next day depending on your plans, head to Bird's Hill or Grand Beach Provincial Park to hike the trails and see birds of the boreal forest (both good in winter!) At Grand Beach (but not in winter!), you'll also see shore birds (e.g. Piping Plover and Great Blue Heron) and Osprey.
You'll dine at Gaffer's Restaurant in Lockport, close to the favorite dining spot of hundreds of white pelicans!
